This Spring Cleaning, Let’s Get Organized First

If you’ve ever spent an entire weekend “spring cleaning” only to feel like nothing really changed, you know exactly what I mean. Because it’s not just about the dust, it’s about the stuff.

You can feel it in the air (no, not pollen!). There’s something about the first hint of spring that makes us want to throw open the windows, grab the cleaning supplies, and start fresh.

We feel it in our bodies before we even think about it. More light. More energy. A sense that it’s time. And so, we clean, wipe, scrub, vacuum, and polish, hoping that when we’re done, our homes will feel different.

But here’s what I’ve learned after working in hundreds of homes: cleaning without organizing first is like painting over a water stain. It might look better for a little while, but the root issue remains.

If you’ve ever spent an entire weekend “spring cleaning” only to feel like nothing really changed, you know exactly what I mean. Because it’s not just about the dust, it’s about the stuff.

Why Spring Cleaning Alone Doesn’t Work

I once worked with a client who had 14 vacuums. Fourteen! She truly believed she was a clean and organized person because she had all the tools to be one.

But even after buying cleaning supplies, rearranging things and deep cleaning, the clutter was still there, and the relief was not.

Because none of it addressed what was underneath. Organizing isn’t about what you buy or how much you clean. It’s about understanding why you’re holding on in the first place.

And until you do that, the cycle continues.

Before You Clean, Start with The LITL System

If you want your spring cleaning to actually stick this year, start with The LITL System:

1. Let It Go: What items can you let go of? Start with what you know you don’t want or need anymore.

2. Intentional: This is the step that can stop you in your tracks – the part where psychology comes into play.

3. Transform Your Space: This is your moment to reflect on what you’ve accomplished.

4. Love It / Live It!: The space surrounding you will be a truer representation of who you are, and living within that space becomes uplifting and empowering. You’ll love it, and you’ll love living in it!

Remember, spring cleaning is a beautiful ritual, but this year, give yourself something even better than a clean home. Give yourself a clear one that helps you be you.

When you organize first, cleaning becomes easy and maintaining it becomes natural. And I’m here for you every step of the way. Let’s schedule a call today!
