But it can get much more complex. There’s something of a science to efficient, effective organization of a bedroom, office, kitchen, garage, whole house, or hallway linen closet. It’s a science Lisa has been writing down. Every professional associated with The Organizing Mentors makes use of the company’s exclusive, proprietary LITL System, short for the Leave It To Lisa Organizational System. It’s a four-step collaborative process designed and fieldtested to eliminate clutter - both physical and mental - and make our clients’ lives easier.
THE LITL SYSTEM:
L – Let It Go – What do you have that you can do without? If something doesn’t fall into the categories of Love or Need, then let it go. Start simple, with what you know you don’t want.
I – Intentional – What makes you feel positive when you see it? And what has the reverse effect? Discard items that produce negativity, sadness, resentment - and keep the things that bring positive emotions. Ask the difficult questions.
T – Transform – Once you make a decision, you are transformed. Clean something out, your world will transform. The benefits and relief are instantaneous.
L – Love It – What you’re left with are only those items that you love and/or need. The space surrounding you will be a truer representation of who you are, and living within that space becomes uplifting and empowering. You’ll love it.
INTERVIEW WITH ORGANIZING EXPERT LISA
How are you different from other professional organizers?
We take our time getting to know our clients and to honor their needs and wishes. We come prepared for anything and can adjust at a moment’s notice. Professional organizing mentors know that every client, every situation is unique. It takes patience, commitment and a loving heart to do what we do. We understand that sorting through and purging items you have had for many years is emotionally draining and quite difficult. Often time, we end sessions earlier than anticipated to give you the break you need. We pass no judgments. We have only your best interest in our hearts.
What do I need to do to prepare for our appointment and what can I expect?
Depending on your project and what areas we are working on, you should have empty boxes/containers, plastic and paper garbage bags. There will be lots of decision-making. We will box and bag things together. Don't worry, we will be helping you throughout the process. No need to start on your own or "prep" things before we get there — it may only end up lengthening our project time.
Do I need to be with you the whole time?
That really depends on the project and the timing. Some clients want to work side by side during every session. While others leave us the key and just want it done and gone. At our first meeting we will determine what the best practice is for you.
Are you going to make me get rid of all my stuff?
Working with our Team Mentors , you never have to worry about what some other organizing companymay do (decide for you what stays and what goes). We will not "make" you get rid of anything…unless of course you want us to! We trust that because you contacted us in the first place, you already know there are things you do not want or need anymore and are ready to let go of. We begin there and after those items are cleared out, we can focus on the items that are still a question.
What are your rates and how do we begin the process?
All projects are different and we customize each proposal to fit your unique situation. Send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or give me a call at 703-434-9585. After our initial connection, we will need to see your space to create a contract/proposal for your project. We highly recommend meeting in person but have also had our clients email or text pictures of the ‘organizational hot spots’. Proposal is then sent and we start discussing a plan. We ask for a $200 deposit to book and hold first appointment/working session.
Can I contact your former or current clients to see what it’s like to work with you?
Please do, I highly encourage you to send an email and ask away. It is our mission (and in our best interest, as well) to ensure all our clients complete satisfaction. Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes. We know your time is precious and so is ours. We do have a firm 48hr cancellation policy. We request an email, call and text (especially within 24hrs). We would do the same if we had to cancel. There may be an emergency that comes up, on either side and we are very understanding, of course.
WOMEN GIVING BACK
The Organizing Mentors helps you clean out your closet and helps women and children in need add to theirs.
We are proud to be a part of Women Giving Back, a charity in the NOVA area with a huge positive impact. Lisa has been on the board since 2009 and devotes much of her volunteer time and energy here.
Middleburg Life recently published an article about Women Giving Back in its August 2017 issue:
Celebrating its 10th year, Women Giving Back has grown from operating out of a closet to now serving more than 6,000 women and children every year in their warehouse in Sterling, Virginia. The organization’s main events occur on the second Saturday of every month, where qualified clients in need peruse aisles of clothing, shopping with dignity.
“It is not like a thrift store or a hand out,” said Nicole Morris, operations manager at Women Giving Back. “It’s really an experience for them.”
